The advantages of having a quality electric reel like the Whisenhunt electric reels are three fold: First and most importantly, an electric reel allows anglers fishing deep water with heavy weights to quickly get their gear back to the top of the water without loosing precious time and energy. I can't tell you how many times I've had my halibut gear at 500-feet and then had a bite without a hookup. Instead of dreading that long, painful reeling up and up and up, an electric reel will do the job in far less time and virtually no angler energy expended. Secondly, the Whisenhunt electric reels have a handle. When you do get a fish on you can play the fish yourself, or if you run out of energy you can engage the electric motor to help you fight the fish. The choice is yours! Last but not least, the Whisenhunt electric reels provide the best option for disabled anglers to enjoy a fishery they wouldn't have been able to participate in without an electric reel. Even if you aren't considered disabled, you might suffer from carpel tunnel syndrome or another ailment that would prevent you from deep water fishing -- but not if you own an electric fishing reel.
